Artist's comments:

Mrs. John Jacob Astor had an Airedale named Kitty. Mr. and Mrs. Astor were returning home from Europe and chose to travel aboard the Titantic. When disaster struck, Mrs. Astor and her maid were ushered onto a life boat. But her husband, Mr. Astor, and Kitty, the Airedale, were left to meet their demise as the Titantic sank into its watery grave. I chose to make this square to honor Kitty's memory.

Artist's Bio:

Ron and I adopted our first Airedale, Flo (the Floster), nearly 4 years ago, from a local breeder. We were immediately hooked on Airedales. Last year, we traveled to Janet Framke's house, just north of Chicago, to get Forge. He is now 14 months. Our three cats (who were all here before the Airedales) tolerate these black and tan fuzzy things. All the kitties have their claws which helps them to maintain their courage in the face of the Jaws of Death! We also have about dozen quail, which Ron uses to train Forge for hunting. Ron is newly retired which the Dales LOVE! They are going swimming in the nearby creek several times a week, and going to state forest and game lands, all across Pennsylvania, looking for good grouse habitat. The two of them have never slept so well at night! Flo and I are active in our new dog club, having participated in a tracking seminar, a pet therapy program at a local hospital, and we're taking beginning agility classes. I am still working for the Pennsylvania Senate and going to school part-time, in the summer for interior design. Upon my retirement from state government (10 - 15 years away, unfortunately), I hope to embark on a "second career" in some facet of the interior design field.
