Advice to people who report a puppy in a pet store

We don't purchase healthy puppies from pet stores because that encourages the breeding of more Airedales.

We know that you will be tempted to purchase the puppy ... none of us like to see a puppy in those conditions, especially an Airedale. DON'T DO IT! It will prompt the pet shop to get more of that breed ... and if they get a whiff of Rescue stepping in to buy the pups, we're really "in for it" because then they will have no reason not to order more Airedales. The only thing that will stop a pet store from selling puppies is if they don't make any money. The kinds of "breeders" who let pet shops sell their puppies usually raise them in such deplorable conditions it would make any of us physically sick to see them for a brief moment. You have to stop to think of the PARENTS of these pet shop puppies. They are living under terrible extremes (heat, cold, wet, dry, hunger, thirst, stench, devoid of human kindness or companionship) .... these dogs whose name spelled backwards is God. It just is NOT okay to buy those pups until/unless they
are about to be sold to laboratories, which does happen.

If you are willing, you can do the following:

  • Act like you are interested in making the purchase of the Airedale.
  • Play with the puppy.
  • Ask to see the papers.
  • Note the store.
  • Note the breeder's name and address information.
  • Note the age of the puppy / Date of Birth
  • Note the sex.
  • Check on the health, normal development for age, and conditions in which the puppy is living such as crate size too small or shared with another pup thus being crowded....
  • Note the asking price.
  • Find people to help you watch over the health and well being of the puppy frequently.
  • If the puppy becomes sick or has parasites, let us know quickly.
  • Let us know when the puppy is purchased.
